From November 13 to 15, 2017, the Center for the Development of Entrepreneurial Activity of People with Disabilities “Uzel” of the Charity Public Association “World Without Borders” conducted a master class for people with disabilities to help them organize their own business in the area of arts and crafts. 12 young people – pupils of the Gomel boarding school for children with disabilities with psychophysical development features, as well as 4 employees of the boarding school – took part in the master class. The need for this master class was evident due to the fact that social service institutions are allowed to sell products of creative activity. This can bring an additional income for a house-boarding school and gives an opportunity for the development of the labor potential of young people with disabilities. The master class was held in the thematic hotel and restaurant complex “Rancho” and in the Gomel house-boarding school for children and young people with disabilities.
The first day of the master-class was devoted to practical studies on making hand-made jewelry using the technique of decoupage on fabric. This type of activity was chosen because such things are quite popular among potential buyers. An important factor was also the simplicity of work in this direction. Participants of the master class made their own brooches, pendants, and earrings.
Practical training on soap making was held on the second day. Soap making is the most popular occupation among artisans and buyers today. Classes on this type of activity was conducted by a mater-artisan Anna Dundukova. The guys under the guidance of the master and with the help of the accompanying employees of the boarding house “cooked” soap cakes, coffee scrub, and soap snowflakes for the New Year.
The activities of third day took place in the Gomel boarding house, because in this institution there is is a muffle furnace for burning ceramic products. The master class on ceramics was conducted by the masters of the creative workshop “Club of Masters” under the guidance of Vadim Kozich. The guys learned how to use different techniques. One of the trainers, an artisan from Gomel, offered his support to the boarding school. The second part of the practical classes on glazing ceramic products will take place on December 5, as time is needed for drying of the samples. The masters showed the instructor on occupational therapy of the Gomel boarding house how to use the muffle furnace. With the assistance of the “Masters Club”, an agreement was reached with the local museum on the sale of products manufactured by the children from the boarding school.
